Straight on the heels of Google I/O's keynote. We get a look at the future of android on a variety of devices and screens.  The video below shows off the latest from Android and Google on everything from watches and cars to tablets and TV's.

 

The video shows a number of the features and projects announced during the I/O keynote including Android Wear, Android Auto, Google TV and the latest version of Chromecast.

New Samsung Ad pokes fun at iPhone users

In a new add for the Samsung Galaxy II, Samsung takes a lighthearted jab at iPhone users. Something apple has done to other manufactures many times in the past. For most of us this will just be a little chuckle shared between geeks but some apple fanboys may want to check their blood pressure before viewing this one.

So the live event just wrapped. And if you were watching you saw a lot of cool stuff. Zero shutter lag, panoramic video recording, hyper skin, instant-text-to-speech, face unlock and Android Beam to name a few.  I'll have more on that and the event up soon but for now checkout this Galaxy Nexus video they neglected to show during the event.

Video: Motorola Droid 3 tutorials leak. Check it out while you can.

A lot of people have been clamoring for more info and details on the Motorola Droid 3. Remember those images of the device that hit the net.   And while I still don't have any further info to dish out. Those of you who are interested in this device should definitely check out these videos while you can. Who knows how long they will be up.

Video: Hands on with the T-mobile Sidekick 4G

The guys over at AndroidCentral were able to get their hands on the Sidekick4G.  From the looks of this video this device is full of the sidekick experience.  Those familiar with the sidekick brand will instantly get a sense that this is indeed a descendant of the Sidekick line. Playable Angry Birds Birthday Cake.

This video started circulating yesterday on several social networking sites and blogs. A cake made by a father for his son's 6th birthday is inspired by the very popular multi-platform game Angry Birds. The cake reportedly took 10 hours to make and 2 minutes to destroy.

"It's become a family tradition that I make increasingly ridiculous birthday cakes for my kids each year. So with my little boy Ben turning 6-years-old over the weekend, and appreciating his love of Angry Birds, I thought I'd have a shot a making him a playable Angry Birds birthday cake with working catapult and iced birds as ammunition."

Motorola XooM minisite is live, $800 at launch on Feb 24th

The commercial clearly aims to remind the viewer of the 1984 Super Bowl ad which is arguably one of the best Super Bowl ads ever.

Leaked BestBuy images showed the device being priced at $800 and launching on February 24th.
The heavy $800 price tag along with the data plan requirements (minimum of 1 month data subscription required to unlock Wi-Fi) could hold this device back from being the hit android tablet that it has the potential to be.  At $800 the Xoom is competing with the high-end iPad which runs $829 but leaves 5 other versions of  Apple's tablet a cheaper option. Video: T-mobile claims largest 4G network.

T-mobile has launched a new series of commercials to promote what they are calling "Americas largest 4G network" Check out the video below along with the web exclusive.




It's not common knowledge for most consumers but none of the major network in the US offer true 4G, technically.  One of the requirements of 4G from a technical standpoint is that the network deliver down-speeds of at least 100 mbps. Of course that is only one way to look at it. From a less technical viewpoint 4G can of course simply be the 4th generation of technology supporting the network. Which I think still may not be the case for most wireless companies.  And all of this may either really confusing or not matter at all; studies have shown that more than half of costumers still don't know what 3G is let alone 4G.

Video displays Android Customization.

If you start talking about the benifits of having an android device one of the first things that will be brought up is that fact that you can do whatever you want with these phones. But what does that really mean? Are we talking home-screen replacements?  Are we talking rooting? We've talked about home-screen replacements in the past. With our review of Slidescreen for android. And if you're a root user then it can mean a million different things. The most recent ROMs out there let users do everything from over-clocking the CPU to upgrading their devices to a new version of the OS not yet officially available.

But taking advantages of the customizability of android doesn't mean having to root your phone.  It just means using the right settings and having the right apps. Bug hits HTC Evo users when they dial 911!

So reports are going around concerning a bug affecting some HTC Evo devices.  This doesn't seem to be a wide spread situation. Of course it would require you to dial 911 to test it out on your individual device.  Something I can't advise.  The reports are stating that when a user dials 911 in a potential emergency situation, the device powers off. A serious issue at the worst possible time.

The solution for this seems to be a 16 digit code that users need to enter in order to contact the emergency services.  It's also a good idea to contact sprint if you have a Evo to be sure of what you need to do to call 911.

Got Froyo? Now you need Chrome-to-Phone!

So your already awesome android device just got a blast of Froyo (android 2.2). You've checked out all the new features.  You've shown the live wallpaper to all your iPhone totting buddies. And you can't get enough of Flash in the browser. Now what?

If that's as far as you've gone with your Froyo exploration you're not done yet. Back at Google I/O one of the things they showed off that really excited me was a cloud to device service.  Enter: Chrome-to-Phone!
If you're like me you've been surfing on your computer and had to leave for one reason or another. And you wanted to continue reading or checking out that page. Only a few options were readily available to you as you went on your merry way. You could simply bookmark the page for later or you could email the page to your phone.  Simple enough I suppose, but there is a better option.

With Chrome-to-Phone you can simply hit the browser extension and the open page in your browser will be sent directly to your android device. This works with youtube videos and maps as well! You can even select text and phone numbers in the browser and send them to your phone's clipboard or directly to the dialer.

Watch the WorldCup matches Live on your Android Device!

I just got this up and running a few minutes ago myself and had to share it. If you haven't been swept up in the pandemonium of the WorldCup then this may be of no interest to you. On the other hand being able to watch 'any' live event from your phone is pretty cool.  I'll keep this short and get you to the action.

Ok here's how this works. You're going to need to Download Skyfire 2.0 if you haven't already.
And then load this link. Watch WorldCup Live!  It's that simple. If you're unfamiliar with Skyfire just wait for the video window to come up and then click it. You'll be watching live 'football' in a few seconds.

This should work on any android phone that can run skyfire. Not sure for those running flash or flash lite in the stock browser. (let us know)  When the feed finally loads you may notice a few things. Mostly that the broadcast is in Spanish but who cares!  I've noticed a lag of about a minute on my 3G. And if you don't hear any sound then touch the screen and raise the volume bar, mine was muted by default for some reason.

Droid X: The next generation of does. Available July 15th

In case you haven't been keeping tabs there has been a lot of Droid talk lately. Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Droid Droid.  Today the Droid X was finally given a firm launch date and price mark. The device will be available July 15th at $199 with contract. I'm pretty excited to find the device will ship with Swype  as well as the BlockBuster app amongst others.,not to mention that it makes a number of improvements on the previous Droid model. Sprint HTC EVO Pics and Video- Unboxing - side by side with Nexus One

It's been a busy week around here with the new job and all.  It's all so been a pretty exciting time with our place seeing the arrival of two new Android devices!  I myself snagged a new Nexus One just last week. And accompanied my brother on launch day to pick up his spanking new Sprint HTC EVO 4G.  Needless to say we're both doing a lot of walking around with our heads down as we play with our new devices.  Not to mention getting busy rooting our old G1s.   I'm sure if you're interested you've seen plenty of pics of this device already. But this device is too hot not to photo. You can expect a few videos to come, not sure how good the quality will be but we'll upgrade our camera sometime soon as well. Here's a few shots of the EVO box and a side by side with the Nexus One.
