Official Android 2.2 Froyo OTA Rolling Out to Nexus Ones.
Posted on 6/29/2010 by A.A.I
It's Official! Android 2.2 aka Froyo is rolling out to Nexus Ones via a OTA update (Over the Air Update).
Many Nexus One users have been happily enjoying a taste of Froyo for over a month now as google has been releasing different versions for testing ever since Google I/O. These versions could be manually installed and then later updated as google continued to "cook" Froyo.
Google was pretty good at addressing most of the usual OTA madness induced questions with the brief post. I broke it down for easy consumption. And added additional info as well.
A little info for masses:
Q: When will you get the OTA?
A: "This update will be rolled out gradually to phones – and most users will receive the notification by the end of the week."
Q: How will you know when you phone recieves the update?
A: "In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone’s notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set."
Q: Will I receive the update if I'm currently running a previous build of Froyo?
A: Yes, just wait for the update.
Q: What's in the update?
A: Android 2.2 Platform Highlights.
Q: Can I download the Update?
A: Yes, but do so at your own risk. If you have done a manual update or flashed your device in the past it's pretty simple. http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-ota-42745.dc39ca1f.zip
Q: Can I install the update if my device is running a custom ROM?
A: The update hasn't been built or tested to work on custom ROMs. And users running a build with a custom recovery image should not manually install the update as it could brick your device.
