Tweetdeck comes out of Beta, available in Android Market.

Tweetdeck has been in a public beta for a few months now but I know many of us have been awaiting the official release. Tweetdeck has made a name for it's self as one of the best twitter desktop clients out there.  Today you can find Tweetdeck in the android market!  The beta builds have all been very solid and functioned great. Something we can expect of the official build as well.  If you are unfamiliar with tweetdeck for android check out the short video below.

Twidroyd 4.1 released

We've been talking a lot about Tweetdeck lately and neglecting our favorite android twitter app. So we're going to give Twidroyd a once over before we head off to enjoy our weekend. 

The most recent builds of Twidroyd have packed in a number of new features and changes.  Now I for one have been trying out the latest Tweetdeck beta; so Twidroyd had to take a back seat for a while.  In fact I was nearing the point where I started to question the need for me to have both on my device.   That was until "livepreview" mode.  Now it isn't new to the latest build but the latest build allows livepreview in portrait as well as landscape display.

The LivePreview mode is really reminiscent of the "new twitter" layout.  It saves greatly on the amount of time you need to spend going from the app to the browser. And for those feeling a bit uneasy about clicking short links the livepreview displays the page without the need to actually click on anything.  This mode alone is a major reason to check out Twidroyd if you've been using something else. Not to mention that widgets and themes are now free in all versions.    I'll include a quick look at some of the latest changes.

Tweetdeck Beta v0.9.8 is available.

Just some quick application update news.

Tweetdeck has released the latest version of their beta application for android.
This update includes 3 different widgets; column, quick launch bar and quick post. As well as an all new column interface and several fixes and improvements as you would expect.  You can find the latest beta update at the link below.

Tweetdeck Beta for Android finally here....well almost.

A lot of twitter fiends have been waiting for this one, including me! Tweetdeck has been one of most popular twitter desktop clients since it's launch.  And as we've mentioned since as far back as early last year; android users have been requesting a mobile counterpart.

Earlier an unofficial build of the Tweetdeck beta was leaked online.  And tweetdeck was quick to make a statement via twitter and notify the masses thar the build was indeed not the official beta. They also advised users to avoid it, saying the official beta will be released tomorrow.

This very very short clip shows a user signing into multiple accounts via the Tweetdeck app.

Official Twitter App for Android Released!

It was only two weeks ago that I was talking about an Official Twitter App coming to android. News of twitter buying apps and releasing their own was met with mixed feelings around the web. On one side; if you were a developer this gave you something to aspire too. Perhaps you could make an app that was good enough be bought by the company and become the official app in a given market. Much like what we saw when Twitter acquired Tweetie. On the flip-side of that argument is the fact the the dozens of developers who have been building twitter apps are in some ways being shot down. In a market that has possibly a hundred twitter apps or apps with twitter integrations it becomes very hard to compete with the app that is Official endorsed by the source site. Leave your thoughts on this below.

Today twitter released their app to the android market.  The app is fairly simple; allowing for only one account for the time being. But  As you would expect it integrates well into the android ecosystem. Allowing you to view and share tweets in a number of ways from your phone.  Including, home screen widget, maps, and contact and GoogleTalk lists.  You can read more about the official twitter android app on twitters blog.

It's worth noting and possibly disappointing to many that this app is only available for devices running android 2.1 or higher. 

Official Twitter App coming for Android.

Yesterday twitter executives held the first half of their developer conference; Chirp. And during the final panel they took to the stage to answer questions directly from the audience. Among them; VP Product Jason Goldman, COO Dick Costolo, Director of Platform Ryan Sarver, CEO Evan Williams, and Co-Founder Biz Stone.

During the Q&A one of the question that came up was about an Android app. To which CEO Evan Williams answered. "There is an Android app in the works"

Review: Hootsuite for Android

Hootsuite "The professional Twitter Client" is available in the Android market. With both a lite and full version ($2.99) available. To start off I want to say this app is full of customization. Multiple accounts and streams, each of which you can choose which tabs you want to view. (mentions, direct messages, searches etc)

Another interesting thing is the swiping method used to move between the tabs. You can swipe left and right or right and left to different tabs. This movement is smooth and fast. In fact I don't think I encountered a single problem navigating this app which is more than I can say for some twitter apps I've tried out recently. It's worth noting that profiles are very well implemented in this app as well. You can save searches and include them in your tabs, schedule tweets and even check your click count from ow.ly All in all this app is easy to navigate, fast and functional. I haven't yet made the switch to hootsuite for good but I'll be holding on to it, it's the best twitter app yet as far as handling multiple accounts. Check it out in the market. Tweetcaster for Android

For a lot of android users or smartphone users in general one of the first applications you're going to look for is a twitter app. And like many other mobile markets the android market is packed full of different twitter apps. To start this off, I'll go out on a limb and say that Twidroid has been the long standing king in the android market. Well, with the arrival of Tweetcaster it has some pretty solid competition.

Once you load the app and login, Tweetcaster is pretty simple to use. Select your account and you're presented with a view of your feed. Five tabs hover above your feed; tweets, mentions, direct messages, favorite tweets and lists. The app also supports multiple accounts(always a good thing) You'll find all the usual goodies of the more established twitter apps here. Click a user and get options to: view profile, reply, block, report as spam or direct message. Click a tweet and you get; reply, favorite, retweet as well as links if one is include. Though it lacks some features.

Tweetcaster's UI is very clean and smooth. The app itself is responsive and I actually enjoyed using this. It was a nice change from the functional but boring Twidroid UI. All in all, this is a good twitter app. Though I have to say coming from twidroid I find it to be lacking a bit. One of the issues I noticed in the app itself, was that it seemed to oddly shrink images if you chose to take them from within the app rather than upload from the SD card. Also an issue that some may not mind necessarily. Upon reload tweetcaster doesn't autoload from the top of the feed. It holds the position of the last tweet you viewed. If it hasn't been long since you last had it open it could seem as though it simply hasn't loaded the new tweets; until you scroll up. As I said some may prefer the app to work this way. I also missed being able to view tweets in full from the pull down notification tray. Tweetcaster simply places an icon in the tray with the number of new tweets displayed like many apps. And lastly there is at this time no option to choose my own notification sound. And the only attachments you can add to your tweets are images. My judgement... worth a download. It has everything the basic user needs in an twitter application.
